Troy Burk and Victoria Gouletas searched high and low for a place to open a Fleet Feet Sports store.

“We looked around Westchester and Connecticut,” says Gouletas.

“We started driving through all the towns, and going up and down the coast,” Burk says.

Finally, the couple found the perfect spot.

“Every time we would go to a new city, we’d be like, ‘Huh, how does that compare to Stamford’ and we’d circle back to Stamford,” says Burk.

“We liked how it’s growing and how there are a lot of corporations here with a lot of people working here,” says Gouletas.

“We just loved what they’re trying to do with the revitalization of Downtown, all the new construction, what they’re doing down by the waterfront, and just the vibrant feel that was here in the community,” Burk says.

Burk and Gouletas officially opened the store on Bedford Street May 30. It’s one of over 100 stores around the country.

Gouletas says, “We are originally from Chicago and Fleet Feet has a very large presence there and we always said that when we retired, we would love the opportunity to open a Fleet Feet Sports.”

They’re not retiring yet.  But say life on the go was getting hectic.

“We looked at each other and said we need to change this,” she says.

And playing a role in the community became their new dream.

“We do Couch to 5k training programs and we’re going to be doing other kinds of training programs like half marathon training and 10k training programs,” says Gouletas.

“What I like about Fleet Feet Sports is just the focus on the community and focusing on educating the community about living an active and healthy lifestyle,” says Burk.

They’ve helped non-profits like the JCC, Domus, and the Boys & Girls Club.

Fleet Feet Stamford will have a grand opening celebration this weekend July 26 to the 28.

”We’re going to have a lot of giveaways, raffles here in the store, a lot of activities, a lot of fun runs,” Burk says. “On Sunday 10% of all our sales are going to the Yerwood Center. The community has welcomed us and we want to say thank you to the community and we think this is a great way to do it.”
