Norwalk Hospital was also recognized as one of the best hospitals in western Connecticut and as one of the best in Fairfield County, according to a press release.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals rank hospitals every year, recognizing hospitals that "excel in treating the most challenging patients," the release said.
Statewide, Norwalk Hospital ranked behind Yale-New Haven Hospital; Hartford Hospital; St. Francis and Medical Center in Hartford; St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport; and Middlesex Hospital.
Norwalk Hospital received special praise for its performance in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics and pulmonology.
"Norwalk Hospital is committed to its mission to provide uniquely excellent, innovative and compassionate health care with exceptional outcomes," said Dan DeBarba, president and CEO of Norwalk Hospital.
"A hospital that emerges as one of the best has much to be proud of," said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings editor.
The press release said about 15 percent are recognized for their high performance regionally. Just three percent earn a national ranking in any specialty, the release said.
