Sparks lit up the clear night sky at Greenwich Point Park on Saturday as local residents crowded the beach for the festivities.
For the eighth year in a row the Department of Parks and Recreation presented fireworks displays at Greenwich Point and Binney Park. Spectators say it's always been annual tradition.
"I'm looking forward to the fireworks because it's a big tradition we do every year and I know that there's going to be a lot today."
"I'm looking forward to all the lights going up and explosions," said Zoe Manson. "We'll complete the night with an apple pie."
"This is our place to be, we set up camp and we have dinner out here," said Christina Brown. "It's the best place to be for the fireworks."
"Being with friends and family that I don't get to see often," said one spectator. "It just has everyone come together to celebrate our country."
As the sun set beyond long island sound spectators paused to tell us what the fourth of July means to them.
