It's authentic Italian with an American twist. That's how Tomato Tomato owner Peter Valis describes his new restaurant.
"Tomato Tomato is a casual, upbeat restaurant. Awesome food, full bar, and just a great and fun atmosphere," said Valis.
The restaurant had its grand opening in Shippan this month, and is serving up pizza to pasta.
"We do offer your traditional gnocchi bolognese but we also have all American nachos, we make our own nachos here, our own chips, buffalo wings. So it's a little bit of everything," said Valis.
And Stamford residents are digging in.
"It's actually my second time here, and I just decided to order the exact same things we got last time because it was amazing," said Georgia Vlahakis, a Stamford resident.
"It's actually probably one of the best Italian restaurants I've had in the area, and there's a lot of good restaurants," said Mike Vosler, also a Stamford resident.
"I thought it was great. I had a side salad of caesar, which is nice, because I don't always like to eat a big salad. And a Margherita pizza, which was very good," said Allen Steen, a Stamford resident.
"All of the staff has been really nice and attentive and helpful," said Vlahakis.
Valis says Shippan was the perfect spot for the restaurant.
"We kind of wanted to be on the outskirts a little bit. Something more casual and just fun and upbeat, family-friendly, but also good for couples or a ball game," said Valis.
"I like the atmosphere, I think it kind of coordinates with the food," said Vlahakis.
"It's open, a lot of room. You're not crowded at all, the booths are nice," said Steen.
Tomato Tomato is located at 401 Shippan Ave. and is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
