Twenty high school seniors were awarded over 30,000 dollars in scholarship money at the Second Annual Stamford Dollars for Scholars Awards Ceremony.
Dollars for Scholars co-president Tony D'Amelio says the volunteer based organization was launched two years ago in Stamford and is a local chapter of the National foundation, Scholarship America. He says there has been an increase in community support over the past year.
D'Amelio says about half of this year's awards are renewable, raising the potential total scholarship value to almost 80,000 dollars.
Monday night's award ceremony at UCONN featured Superintendent Winnie Hamilton and magician Ryan Oakes as the guest speakers.
Stamford Dollars for Scholars awards are open to high school seniors who live or attend school in Stamford. For more information, visit www.StamfordDollarsForScholars.org
