Voices rang out in song to celebrate the Mill River Park Playground for its 7th birthday on Saturday.
The Stamford band "Swingset Mamas" is made local moms and children, who write, record and perform a variety of interactive upbeat songs for people of all ages. Their music ranges from reggae, blues, funk, and hip hop.
"Lizzie and I had children at the same time and we were singing with our children and realizing how beautiful that was to make music all together with them and here we are on this beautiful day sharing with the city of Stamford," said Marlow Bechmann. "We are so happy to be here."
"Swingset Mamas" has been performing locally for 14 years and members tell us during the park's construction they've helped entertain workers.
"I think it's a great day to celebrate all the development that's been done with Mill River and to just enjoy the park on such a gorgeous day and share music and movement with kids and signing and awareness," said Julia Chen.
The event also included family friendly activities for children and parents.
"It's a beautiful day to be outside, it's a beautiful day to be out in the park, to bring out the kids, enjoy all the festivities that they have today and just kind of come out and support what's going on in Stamford right now."
The Mill River Collaborative is a local governmental partnership, made up of 500 members. The Collaborative involves corporate and community partnerships and has raised $14 million.
