In Stamford Wednesday, seniors in high school and veterans were honored by the Stamford Citizen of the Year Committee. Five Stamford students received $7,500 scholarships and were recognized alongside veterans for their service to the community and country.
Scholarship Chairman Rick Redniss says of the veterans being honored, “It was the greatest generation, and a lot of them came home and were very quiet, got back to work, and they were never properly recognized for what they’ve done. We’re really coming to appreciate our Veterans more and more now.
With regard to the students Redniss says, “In terms of the kinds of things they’ve done, the leadership they’ve shown, the new ideas they’ve come up with, it’s pretty amazing to see the leadership that comes out of these kids.”
The Citizen of the Year, Jami Sherwood, the student scholarship recipients, and the veterans will all be honored at the City’s Citizen of the Year Awards dinner on May 7th at the Italian Center.
