Six new faces have been added to the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame.  The Fairfield County Sports Commission honored the local athletes Monday, unveiling their plaques at UConn Stamford.

"This is part of our history, it's part of our tradition, and it's educational," said Tom Chiappetta, the Executive Director of the Commission.

Each year, Chiappetta says the commission names 6 prominent sports figures.  The Hall of Fame displays over 50 sports legends to date.

"The class of athletes, coaches, and people from the sports world, we're very fortunate in Fairfield County to have such an illustrious group of people," said Chiapetta.

The class of 2012 includes Wes Matthews, Sue Merz, Ed Finnegan, Harold Jenson, Dave Strong and Jim Penders Sr.

The Hall of Famers were inducted at the commission's eighth annual Sports Night in October.
