From drilling a hole to plug a plant basin, to installing new flower beds, Fairgate Farm is getting ready for its 3rd season.
Farm Manager Bill Callion says since Friday's snow storm, work on the grounds has started to pick up, … starting with strawberries.
Soon, fruits, vegetables and flowers will cover this acre and a quarter plot. Last year, 70 to 80 different kinds of vegetable were planted. Part of Callion's vision for the community farm, is teaching nutrition.
Colin Coogan, who runs the Stamford organic gardening company Green Up, has been lending a hand for two years.
"What Bill has done in growing food, and getting the community involved…"
Callion says much of the produce is sent to the local soup kitchen and Stamford Hospital. Each year, the farm opens its gate to the community during its Harvest Festival in September.
Fairgate Farm is located at 135 Stillwater Ave.
