The University of Connecticut held its 9th annual celebration Tuesday in honor Black History Month. The educational event featured a community expo and several speakers. The keynote speaker, Juanita James, says she was pleased to see many young adults in the crowd and says she hopes they took an important message with them.
Governor Dannel Malloy and Mayor Michael Pavia spoke at the event as well. They shared personal experiences and emphasized the importance of keeping the history alive.
Organizers say the event continues to grow and hope it will be even bigger next year.
