Here's what made news this week.

In Stamford, Governor Dannel Malloy announced a proposed 10-year, $1.5 billion plan for the University of Connecticut designed to prepare students for jobs in science, technology, engineering and math.  Malloy says the program will boost state graduates in those fields by 47% and turn out a new workforce.  On Stamford's campus, that means 300 more students would receive degrees every year and 35 new staff members would be hired.

In Greenwich, Connecticut's newest senator, Chris Murphy met with first selectman Peter Tesei to talk federal funding Wednesday.  Murphy says he thinks Mianus River deserves a Community Development Block Grant.  The river has not been dredged since 1984, and the city's harbormaster says it would take $12 million to remove sediment that is causing problems for the harbor.

Finally in Norwalk, West Rocks Middle School delivered a $2,800 check to Newtown First Selectwoman Pat Llodra on Friday.  Along with the money, the school delivered gift bags with handmade buttons, bracelets and poems.  The money will go to the Sandy Hook First Responders Fund.
