February is national heart health month.

Dr. Thomas Nero says the two most important things for keeping your heart in shape is a healthy diet, and regular exercise.

The Centers for Disease Control says in the United States, 1 out of every 3 deaths is due to heart disease each year. But it’s preventable.  Along with diet and exercise, monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol and mainting a healthy weight can also help.

The CDC, US Dept of Health and Human Services and other agencies are hoping to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017 with its Million Hearts Initiative.
