“I’m ready.. I’m ready to lead this charge as your Mayor,” said William Tong.

Democratic State Representative William Tong kicked off his campaign for Mayor of Stamford. Tong currently serves the 147th district, representing parts of Stamford and Darien.

“We can’t continue to just go through the motions anymore, we can’t drift and wander and find our future by neglect.  We have to figure out where we’re going in this City.”

“William Tong today has the diplomacy, William Tong today has the tenacity.  He has already gotten results for the City of Stamford,” said John Louizos, a Stamford Board of Finance member.

Today, family, friends and supporters of Tong gathered at Sorrento’s Pizza a family-owned restaurant that’s run for 24 years in Stamford.  Growing up, Tong’s family ran its own restaurant.

“They approached us and he said our family is kind of similar to his family and the way we’ve grown up and he’s grown up.  So he felt a connection, and he’s been a customer here probably for about 5 to 7 years,” said Rica DeBlasi.

Surrounded by his wife and three young children, Tong focused on families.

“When I think of Stamford’s future and who we can be, I see a city where parents like us can confidently send our kids to great schools and raise our children here.  I think of children growing up in Stamford and then some day, returning here to raise families of their own,” said Tong.

Tong says he’s working on a plan called Stamford 2020 – a goal to make Stamford the best small city in America for families.
