In a statement released Thursday, Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia announced that he will not seek re-election for a second term as Mayor.

In the statement, Mayor Pavia said,  “Throughout my career, I have had the honor of serving the City of Stamford in multiple capacities. The time has come for me to return to my life as businessman and private citizen.

I have been urged by many, Republicans and Democrats alike, to seek another term; I am grateful for the confidence and the support I have received.

While there are still many challenges and opportunities ahead for the City of Stamford, I am confident that my administration has laid the foundation for the ongoing success of the City.

Coming into Office during the greatest economic downturn of our lifetime I am very proud that we have achieved many significant accomplishments during my term:

We have been successful in achieving the lowest rate of successive tax increases in Stamford’s history.

The City continues to remain one of the safest cities in America; and the safest city in New England.

We have aggressive city-wide infrastructure an improvement plans underway.

Stamford is in the midst of a development and construction boom that is the envy of almost every city in the country, and which will pay economic dividends for decades to come.

We have successfully withstood and recovered from several of the most powerful natural disasters to hit the East Coast. We have greatly improved our emergency planning and response procedures with each experience.

We have redesigned the City’s website to provide interactive payment services and on- line most current City-wide information.

During the remainder of my term, my Administration and I still have much to accomplish. We will continue to focus on the many projects, which are of critical importance to our City.

The last three years have been the most rewarding of my life. I value the trust the citizens have placed in me and I pledge to continue to work for the City of Stamford, not just during the remainder of my term, but well beyond.”
